NaNoWriMo Day 2: Writer vs. Human

Day 2 of NaNoWriMo is off to a great start!

Yesterday was the first day of this ridiculous challenge and I must say, I’m doing much better than I had expected. In order to achieve the goal of writing 50,000 words in a mere 30 days, one must write an average of 1,667 words per day. I decided to raise my own personal goal above this average and am instead aiming for 2,000 words per day. At the moment, I’m sitting at 5,015 words and still have time to write later this evening. If I can keep up this pace, I will most definitely reach my goal.

Word count aside, my story seems to be forming surprisingly well. Considering that I jumped into this thing with virtually no preparation, I feel incredibly confident in the epic tale that is unfolding before me. In a few days or so, I may select a few gems from what I’ve come up with so far and share them here.

In the mean time, I’m going to take advantage of what has proven to be a superb start to this marathon. I must admit, I am concerned about a few minor details though. With all my motivation to write, it seems that I have quickly forgotten how to carry out some very basic human functions. I’m only one and a half days in and so far, I almost peed my pants twice and forgot to eat today. My motivation and commitment to this challenge is a positive thing for my writer self, but for my human self, I’m going to have to figure out a balance. If not, I’m going to continue losing out to my writer self and end up eating something crazy like coffee bean cereal for the next month. (Dry, of course. I hate milk.)

I wonder what will happen if I eat the whole bowl…
