No Such Thing as The Lizzard Queen
You know what I really think? I think that Otep would’ve been wise to have taken some fucking “how to channel Jim Morrison” lessons from Val Kilmer before she put out this piece of garbage. Seriously.
I understand the compulsion to pay tribute to your influences, and fucking around with their music is part of that. Artistic license can be an amazing thing when used creatively and in a way that enhances or transforms an original piece of work into something new and exciting, yet still familiar. Countless artists do this very thing, and they do it well. Snake River Conspiracy’s cover of “Lovesong”, Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Sweet Dreams”, and In Flames’ cover of “Land of Confusion” are all prime examples of this.
Honestly, Otep completely failed on this one. This cover is an absolute affront. I hate to speak so negatively and critically of an artist that I truly like and admire, but this is bullshit.
