A Mosh A Day Keeps the Hangover at Bay
When it comes to hangovers, I am all but proactive in combating them. I never seem to drink enough water or eat enough food to help ease what will ultimately come to get me the morning after. So, over the years I have tried every trick in the book and what I have found is that Moshing is the only cure. After a morning Moshing session, you will inevitably end up either sweating or puking it out. Either way, you can say goodbye to your queasy stomach and pounding headache and start out what would have been a wasted day on the couch feeling refreshed and rebellious.
You can choose to do this with a friend/roommate/bandmate/pet, but I usually wake up before the rest of my band (they prefer the “sleep it off” method) so I go solo. I usually set up a short (20-30 minute) playlist with a few different artists, clear a nice roomy space so I don’t have to worry about accidentally moshing with a coffee table or punching random household items, and then crank my stereo and mosh away.
Refused’s “New Noise” is definitely a favorite for an opening track as it gives a little time to ease into it, and by the time you get to track 2 of your playlist, the beer sweat will be flowing.
When selecting tracks, I usually go for dynamic as opposed to heaviness. I like something heavy and moshable, but metal can be a little too harsh. Post-hardcore bands like From Autumn to Ashes and Alexisonfire work great, as does some older MCR (anything PRE-Black Parade).
